In the morning with harmony restored, Eve made breakfast. They ate it in the kitchen holding hands between mouthfuls of cheese and tomato omelette, with brown buttered toast on the side. Afterwards, Bernadette gave Eve the contract from the gallery to read, and Eve looked the gallery up online. She spent some time on the website before they sat down together on the sofa in the living room.

“Wow, it’s amazing, God, what a beautiful gallery, I mean modern and stuff, but spacious and all that, a really good location… and D’Arcy did this for me?”

“Yes, yes she did,” Bernadette’s eyes were shining. She had finally got the reaction she wanted, and it was worth it. Her heart was full. Full of love from making Eve happy.

“And you too, my darling, you did it all too.” Eve planted a kiss on her lips.

“Are you OK to sign the contract and do all that work, darling?”

“Yes, for sure, I will, I mean I already have some, but I probably need to do some new stuff too,” Eve said excited.

“I guess you will want to do some more nudes…”

The reality of the scheme was borne in on Bernadette, now that she thought about it. This was perhaps the downside, if you happened to be the jealous type.

“Yes, well, I suppose I will need to and…” Eve hesitated, she looked at Bernadette a little anxiously.

“You’re going to need some models. They can’t all be me, can they,” Bernadette said flatly. She had started this and so she had to wear it. When she had first discovered Eve was an artist, she’d insisted on being the model. That was then, but now, if Eve was going to become a professional artist, she would have to let go, just a little.

“No, I guess not.” Eve seemed to be trying to read her expression.

“Well,” said Bernadette practically, “You can get them to come here, I don’t mind, and maybe I can be here sometimes while you draw them.”

“Are you sure?” Eve looked surprised, “I thought you might be a little… jealous.”

Bernadette took her hand, “Oh I am, my sweetheart, you should know that, but I’m also practical. Besides I’d rather you did your drawing at home. Also… I’m not averse to admiring the female form, per se.”

Eve laughed. Bernadette might have her insecurities, but she would never let them get in the way of her girlfriend’s aspirations.

“Thank you, I may need to get some modelling lights,” Eve said, “And I’ll look up some models.”

“Can I look too, help you choose?” Bernadette asked, a little shyly.

“Sure, of course, darling. I’ll be glad to have your critical… eye.”

“Oh good. I’ll pay for whatever you need and also the framing and stuff.”

“You’re so good to me,” Eve kissed her.

“Well, you know you could make a lot of money from this, enough to keep you going, maybe you won’t have to do the fitness instructor stuff. Andrew can do your accounts, if you like.”

“Sounds great, I’ll need to go up and meet this Valentino.
